Federal Minister of Health, the academician and Nobel Prize laureate, Mr. Evghenii Ciazov, launched a large-scale project to establish diagnostic centers. As part of this project, Moldova’s Minister of Health, Chiril Draganiuc, established the Republican Medical Diagnostic Center. At the time of its establishment, the Center was equipped with state-of-the-art, high-performance equipment, most of which was unique in the Republic of Moldova. 

Since its establishment, the Republican Medical Diagnostic Center has been equipped with American, German, and Japanese medical technology. Spaces were created for the installation of technical equipment, qualified specialists were trained “on an emergency basis,” and departments and laboratories were established, some of which (such as nuclear medicine) were not even included in the official list of medical specialties.

The establishment of the Republican Medical Diagnostic Center was a truly significant event, as it was the first domestic medical institution of such magnitude. Its founder is rightly considered to be Chiril DRAGANIUC, MD, and former Minister of Health, who led the center for 14 years. Chiril DRAGANIUC is a prominent figure in our medical community and belongs to the golden elite of physicians who have dedicated their lives to the cause of medicine. In 2010, Andrei TESTEMIȚANU was appointed general director of the Republican Center for Medical Diagnostics. Andrei TESTEMIȚANU is a doctor of medicine and associate professor, and he continues with insight the work begun by his predecessors.

The history of the Republican Medical Diagnostic Center spans a quarter of a century. Many of the institution’s staff members are intimately familiar with its stages of growth, establishment, and maturation, having weathered some rather difficult times: a regime in decline, democratic transformations that were still elusive, and a failing economy. Nevertheless, the Republican Medical Diagnostic Center began as an innovative institution within the medical context of that time. The Center has been and continues to be staffed by true patriots of this institution—highly qualified specialists whose authority is widely recognized among both the medical community and patients.

The state-of-the-art medical equipment with which the institution was equipped, along with its team of highly experienced specialists, helped establish the institution’s reputation from the very beginning by enabling the accurate and timely diagnosis of numerous diseases and conditions.

It is also commendable that the first specialists at the Republican Medical Diagnostic Center, having quickly mastered the use of modern equipment, subsequently established—a process that continues to this day—a training program at the republican level for medical personnel at various healthcare facilities, particularly in the field of medical imaging.

The years 2012–2013 marked a major turning point in the work of the Republican Medical Diagnostic Center. The institution was fully equipped with state-of-the-art medical equipment. Nine new diagnostic devices were put into operation. Patients gained access to a CT scanner, an MRI machine, and seven 4D ultrasound machines. The procurement of the equipment was carried out at the initiative of the institution’s administration, supported by the leadership of the Ministry of Health and the National Health Insurance Company, as part of the ongoing process of functional consolidation and technological modernization of the country’s medical institutions. Equipping the institution with high-performance equipment has elevated the Republican Medical Diagnostic Center to the level of a center of excellence. The purchased devices have been connected to the institution’s information network, and the results of the examinations are stored on the server, which allows for the creation of the patient’s electronic medical record and facilitates the dynamic monitoring of conditions.
